1. The text for this course is “A Short Course in Photography” by Barbara London and Jim Stone. It is available in the Campus Book Store, as well as on reserve in the school library.
2. You will be required to shoot a minimum of three rolls of film per week (type to be discussed) and hand in contact sheets for each roll.
3. Since this is a visual class your final portfolio will consist of the following: a minimum of 12 excellently executed 8" x 10" retouched photographs. Subject matter of the 12 photos will include 4 special assignments (to be discussed later), 4 free choice assignments and 4 - 8x10 digital prints from scanned negatives , All assignments must be varied and non-duplicate subject matter. A minimum of four of the 12 prints will have to be mounted on mat board. Some assignments will be due at various times during the semester, the remaining no later than the end of the day prior to the last class session. Portfolios are to be submitted in a protective container (paper or plastic bag etc.). All negatives and contact sheets are to be handed in as well. Digital thumbnails and files will also be required during the semester.
4. There will be a midterm evaluation (quiz) at approximately the middle of the semester. Any student not present for the midterm will fail their midterm evaluation, which is averaged into the final grade. In addition, constant feedback of your work will be given daily/weekly and will act as a further form of evaluation. Group critiques will also be held acting as an additional form of evaluation and will be graded on a pass/fail basis. If you are not there or don’t submit a print it will be considered an F and averaged as a full project grade.
5. All work will be submitted on dates due; any late work will be severely downgraded.
6. This is a "hands on" course. Since almost all of your work must be done in our labs, attendance is extremely important. Two absences will be overlooked, after that each additional absence will reduce your final average by a ½ grade, i.e.: B to C+. I fully understand that life does throw us some curves. With that understanding, if you must be absent more than twice call me and discuss it with me. I can make exceptions if I feel it is justified. While discussing attendance, let me remind you that class starts on time each day and lateness is highly frowned upon. Every two lates will count as one absence. It is my policy, as a general rule, not to sign withdrawal slips after the automatic “w” period. In order to complete the required work for this class each student should plan on utilizing our labs, outside of class, during the week.

-Proper darkroom procedure and cleanliness must be adhered to for both your own safety as well as common courtesy to others.
-Students must have their IDs with them anytime they are in the photo suite and must wear them anytime they are on campus
